Additional Information

The time range of use of the key is only approximate and may be extended in the future. It was determined for the years in which the key was certainly used according to the existing knowledge. It can be documented that the key was certainly used at least from February 1720 to  April 1722 for the correspondence of Leopold Viktorin von Windischgrätz with the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. But there could have been more users. According to the inscription on the back of the key (see below), the key was later used for correspondence with Friedrich Heinrich von Seckendorf, the imperial ambassador in Berlin in 1726-1734. Their correspondence has not been found, so it cannot be determined in which of these years the key was actually used. However, the total time range of the use of the key can be extended at least to 1726 thanks to the aforementioned note.
The inscription on the reverse: Ziffer mit I[hre] K[ayserliche] M[ajestät] nunmehro mit dem Graffen v[on] Seckendorff nacher Berlin
