Additional Information

The letter is among the documents of Maximilian von Trauttmansdorff, but it was addressed directly to Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor, as is clear from the address in the letter head.

The reconstructed key contains homophonic substitution, bigrams (one ciphertext character for one bigram) and nulls. The ciphertext characters are mostly numeric, less alphabetic (more Latin and less Greek alphabet) and there are also a few graphic signs. The language of the cleartext and the plaintext is German, but the text also contains a lot of Latin phrases or words.
