On 26 April 1757, or shortly after, in the Dutch Republic two letters were intercepted written by the Count d; Affry. The second one, carrying the number 172 was only a short note. It was never solved, but the first, much longer letter, carrying the number 171 was solved by the Dutch codebreakers. Was it overlooked or was the effort unsuccesful, because a different code was used? Or was the solution simply lost?
